Obama: I’m Sad to See McCain Sink So Low

Barack Obama says he’s “sad” to see John McCain “sink so low” by attacking him down the home stretch of the 2008 campaign.

In remarks Obama is scheduled to deliver shortly in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Democrat says McCain is attacking him because the Republican has failed to sell voters on his economic proposals.

“That’s why he’s spending these last few days calling me every name in the book,” Obama’s remarks say. “I’m sorry to see my opponent sink so low.”

Obama swings through North Carolina as polls show the presidential race neck and neck in the state.

Obama referenced the line of attack, forwarded by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), that Obama’s tax plans amount to socialism. The McCain camp and the Republican National Committee have pushed that angle after the final presidential debate Oct. 15, where McCain hit Obama for telling Joe Wurzelbacher (aka “Joe the Plumber”) that he wanted to “spread the wealth.”

“Lately, he’s called me a socialist for wanting to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can finally give tax relief to the middle class. By the end of the week, he’ll be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in Kindergarten,” Obama’s prepared remarks say.
