Hagan: Dole Broke 9th Commandment

Democrat Kay Hagan is confronting Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) in a new ad that began airing Thursday, saying the senator crossed a line when linking Hagan to atheists.

“Elizabeth Dole’s attacks on my Christian faith are offensive,” Hagan says. Hagan ends by saying that her her campaign is about jobs and the economy instead of “bearing false witness against fellow Christians.”

The 9th Commandment prohibits bearing false witness against a neighbor.

Hagan’s ad, which Thursday, is a response to Dole’s ad that highlights a Hagan fundraiser that was hosted at the Boston home of an adviser to the Godless Americans political action committee. Dole’s commercial goes on to show that the Godless Americans support removing references of God from the public square, such as the words “In God We Trust” from money and the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. Hagan’s campaign has noted that she’s a Sunday School teacher at the Presbyterian church her family has attended for more than a century.

Hagan is leading Dole in the latest polls of their Senate race.
