Rep. Chris Shays (Conn.), the last Republican House member in New England, has lost his bid for an 11th term, according to the Associated Press and CNN.
Shays lost to Democrat Jim Himes, a former vice president at Goldman Sachs. Their southwest Connecticut district is among the most affluent in the country and is home to many employees of Wall Street investment banks. Shays had built a reputation as a centrist Republican who was trusted by independents and Democrats who sometimes disagreed with him.
