Minnesota Senate Race Headed to Recount
The race between Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) and Democrat Al Franken appears headed to a recount, as both candidates have received 42 percent of the vote.
With 97 percent of the precincts reporting, Franken leads Coleman by 44 votes. Franken has 1,164,185 votes, while Coleman has received 1,164,141 votes. Former Sen. Dean Barkley (I) received 421,180 votes, or 15 percent of the total.
State law requires a recount whenever the winning margin is less than 0.5 percent, notes the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
