Democrat Al Franken needs to win more than 6 percent of the ballots he contested in order to overtake Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) in their Senate race, according to a Minneapolis Star Tribune analysis.
Coleman currently holds a 282-vote lead with 86 percent of the votes recounted. If Coleman wins none of his challenges, Franken will need to prevail on more than 6 percent of his challenges. That number increases if Coleman is successful on any of his challenges.
Franken’s team, however, has said that the margin between the two candidates is smaller — just 73 votes. The Democrat’s aides have argued that most of Coleman’s challenges will fail.
