Hutchison Leads Gov. Perry In Internal Poll

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s team is touting an internal poll showing her far ahead of Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a potential 2010 Republican primary for governor.

Hutchison leads Perry 55 percent to 31 percent among likely primary voters, according to the survey conducted by Voter/Consumer Research for Hutchison.

Hutchison has already filed paperwork to allow her to explore a potential gubernatorial bid. Perry is expected to seek a second term.

A Perry pollster, however, told the Houston Chronicle that the governor would prevail over the senator if they ran against each other.

“He beats her like a drum,” said pollster Mike Baseslice.
