Poll: Hodes edges Sununu, Bass in N.H. Senate race

We’re heading into another tight New Hampshire Senate race next year, according to a poll released this week.

The Dartmouth University poll, conducted at the end of May, found Democratic Congressman Paul Hodes beating two possible Republican candidates in the race for retiring Sen. Judd Gregg’s (R) seat. Hodes beat former Sen. John Sununu (R) 38 percent to 35 percent with 27 percent undecided.

Those results contrast a Granite State Poll released earlier in May that found Sununu edging Hodes by a 46 percent to 41 percent margin.

Hodes also defeated former Congressman Charles Bass, whose seat he now holds, by a narrow 31 percent to 30 percent margin in the poll. Nearly four in 10 respondents were undecided in that match up, though.

We reported in late April that Bass was considering a return to politics, either in the Senate race or running for his old House seat.

There was a plus or minus 5 percent margin of error in the poll.
