Griffin rules out Lincoln challenge

After some indications otherwise, former interim U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin (R) said this weekend that he will not challenge Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) next year.

Arkansas News columnist David Sanders reported Sunday that Griffin, who was considered a top recruit for Republicans, has decided it is not the right time for a run. Griffin, who was a former aide to Karl Rove, had traveled the state and ginned up quite a big of support among Arkansas Republicans.

Polling at the end of March showed Griffin to be in striking distance of Lincoln, trailing the second term Democrat by 46 percent to 38 percent margin.

Currently state Sen. Kim Hendren is the only Republican who has declared for the Senate race. He has run into a few problems so far, though.
