Poll: Feinstein Top Dem for CA Gov.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) holds a significant lead among Democrats potentially running for governor of California in 2010, according to new (and early) Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research poll.

Thirty-six percent of Democrats sampled in the poll said they would support Feinstein if she ran for governor. California Attorney General Jerry Brown earned 14 percent support among Democrats, followed by San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who both pulled in 9 percent. Twenty-two percent were undecided on the Democratic side.

Among Republicans the results were far less clear. Former Congressman Tom Campbell led with 15 percent while former eBay CEO Meg Whitman received support from 14 percent of Republicans polled. Sixty-two percent of Republicans, though, were unsure about who they would support.

The poll was conducted Jan. 22 through Jan. 25 and surveyed 752 voters. There was a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent. Check out the results here.
