Shays Not Running for Senate

Former Rep. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) says he isn’t gearing up to challenge Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) in 2010.

“I am not running for the Senate,” Shays emailed The Hill.

Shays, who was beaten by Rep. Jim Himes (D) last year after holding the seat since 1987, has been mentioned as a potential challenger to Dodd. Dodd recently refinanced two loans he had with Countrywide Mortgage Loans after it appeared he was given a favorable rate.

Shays did not, however, respond to a follow up email asking whether he had completely shut the door on the possibility.
