Bennett really safe for 2010

This new poll from DailyKos/Research 2000 shows that, unsurprisingly, Sen. Robert Bennett (R-Utah) has virtually no competition for re-election in 2010.

The poll pits Bennett against Rep. Jim Matheson, who they say is the most well known Democrat in the state. Bennett crushes him 55 percent to 32. The survey also tested a hypothetical match up between Bennett and Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings, another Democrat. Bennett also smokes him 57 percent to 21.

Bennett’s favorable/unfavorable ratings are slightly less impressive. Fifty-two percent view him favorably while 37 percent view him unfavorably and 11 percent have no opinion. Any vulnerability seen in those numbers, though, is likely negated by the fact that there doesn’t appear to be anyone that can mount a significant challenge.

Bennett’s security is not surprising given his previous campaign successes. Bennett won his first race for the Senate in 1992 55 percent to 40 percent and has only increase his margin of victory since. In 1998, he won 64 percent to 33 percent and in 2004, 69 percent to 28 percent.
