Buck considers challenging Bennet

The GOP may finally have a candidate to take on new Sen. Michael Bennet (D) in Colorado.

Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck (R), who was previously considered a potential challenger to Rep. Betsy Markey (D) in Colorado’s 4th District, told the Denver Post he is leaning toward the Senate race. “It’s fair to say I’m considering a run for one of them, but I’m looking more closely at the Senate race,” Buck said.

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers had been the Republican candidate most people were talking about shortly after Bennet was appointed. But Suther’s said at the end of January that he wasn’t interested in the job and other Republicans have taken a wait-and-see approach to the race.

In addition to Buck, other Republicans rumored to be interested in the race include former Rep. Bob Beauprez (R-Colo.), former state Treasurer Mark Hillman and Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier.

Buck said he plans to make a decision on whether he’ll run for either the House or Senate in April.
