Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has eaten away at Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s (R) lead in a highly-anticipated Republican primary showdown in 2010, a new poll released Monday showed.
36 percent of Texas Republicans said they prefer Hutchison as their gubernatorial candidate in 2010, according to a University of Texas poll. Perry, the incumbent, drew the support of 30 percent of Lone Star State voters.
The six percent margin between the two well-known candidates is narrower than previous polls have shown the race. A late February Public Policy Polling survey found Hutchison ahead 56-31.
The survey was conducted Feb. 24-March 6, and has a margin of error of 5.7 percent.
