NRCC ad goes after Murphys taxes

A new ad from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) goes after the Democrat in New York’s special election for tax issues.

In the new ad, obtained by The Hill, the NRCC uses similar language to a past radio ad in which they hit businessman Scott Murphy for paying bonuses while his company, Synacor, lost money.

The tax claim relates to his time at a different company, Small World Software.

Scott Murphy didnt pay taxes on a business he owned, said it wasnt his responsibility. But state records proved it was. And the resulting tax liens still unpaid, nine years later, the ad states.

The issue is not a new one in the campaign. Murphys campaign has contended that the tax liens were filed after he had given up ownership of the company, which merged with a company called iXL-New York.

Murphy remained employed by the new company for a short time, but said he was not in charge of the new companys taxes.

Murphy is battling Republican Assemblyman in a close special election to replace appointed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in her former House seat.
