NY Post backs Tedisco

The New York Post on Thursday endorsed Republican New York Assemblyman Jim Tedisco in the special election for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-N.Y.) former House seat.

In an editorial, the Post spent more space criticizing Democrat Scott Murphy than supporting Tedisco.

“Democrat Scott Murphy, a newcomer to elective politics, has said little in this campaign to suggest that he’d be much more than a rubber stamp for the high-spending agenda of President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.),” the Post wrote.

“Tedisco is a far better fit for the largely conservative district, which runs along the Hudson River-Lake Champlain valley from Poughkeepsie to the Canadian border,” the editorial also says.

Tedisco and Murphy are facing off in next Tuesday’s special election in what most observers are considering an early preview of the Democrats and Republicans’ 2010 prospects. The election is also being viewed as a referendum on President Obama’s early efforts to right the economy, which have become talking points for both candidates in the race.
