Danny Davis: Burris needs to ‘hurry up’ on 2010 decision

Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) needs to “hurry up” and decide whether or not he’s running for reelection, onetime Burris backer and now potential Senate candidate Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.) said Monday.

Davis, who is mulling a run for the Senate seat, encouraged Burris to quickly make up his mind on the embattled incumbent’s intentions.

“That would play seriously in the thinking of any African American who may be interested,” Davis told Chicago Public Radio. “I’m hoping that the senator will hurry up and publicly let people know whether he intends to run for election.”

Burris has been under scrutiny since revealing he had discussed raising money for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-Ill.) in exchange for a senatorial appointment.

Republicans are hoping that Burris will remain on the ticket, while Democrats like Davis and state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias are hoping to replace Burris atop the Democratic ticket in 2010.
