Sen. Lincoln gets GOP challenger

Arkansas state Sen. Kim Hendren (R) will challenge centrist Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) in her 2010 reelection bid.

Hendred told the Associated Press that he’ll challenge the two-term incumbent Lincoln, targeting her for her support of the bailouts for the financial industry, among other issues.

Pivoting toward reelection, Lincoln announced two weeks ago that she would oppose the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA, or “card check”), a prized piece of union legislation but potential burden to the Benton, Ark.-based Wal-Mart corporation.

The AP reported that former interim U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin and state Sen. Gilbert Baker of Conway are also considering the Republican nomination.
