McCaul well behind challenger in fundraising

One 2010 House race where national Democrats see an opportunity is Democrat John “Jack” McDonald’s challenge of Republican incumbent Michael McCaul in Texas’s 10th District.

And, after last week’s fundraising numbers, Democrats are likely to be even more excited.

As he announced before the deadline, McDonald raised an impressive $312,000, including a $1,000 personal loan. He finished the period with $307,000 cash on hand.

McCaul’s numbers were less impressive. He hauled in $102,500 and finished with $62,000 cash on hand. But he is carrying more than $511,000 in debt.

Of course, Texas’s 10 District should be safe for Republicans – Charlie Cook rates it as R+10 in his PVI. But if Democrats make a serious play to pick up seats in 2010, this could be one that gets a lot of attention.
