Dodd gets primary challenger

Businessman Merrick Alpert becomes the first Democrat to officially challenge Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) in a primary.

Alpert worked on President Clinton’s 1992 campaign and has also worked on Vice President Al Gore’s advance team and advised Oklahoma Gov. David Walters (D), according to his website.

Former Greenwich First Selectman Roger Pearson is also weighing a primary challenge to Dodd.

Little is known about either man, but Democratic leaders have suggested they are sticking by Dodd, even as he experiences some rough times.
