Brunner: ‘Nothing’ could force her out of Senate race

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said she’s in the state’s Senate race to win it, saying there’s no way she’ll pull out.

“My experience growing up here in Ohio and working in public service from many different vantage points leaves me in a position to believe that I can be of help to my state at a time when public-minded people are desperately needed,” Brunner told the Youngstown Vindicator.

Brunner is principally locked in a campaign against Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher (D) for the Democratic nomination for the open Senate seat. Former Rep. Rob Portman (R) leads the pack of Republicans to replace the retiring Sen. George Voinovich (R).

Asked if there was anything that would force her out of the race, she said: “No, nothing.”

Brunner said she’s abandoning her statewide post because “my state and country need me elsewhere.”
