US snowboarder Chloe Kim makes Olympic history

American snowboarder Chloe Kim made Olympic history on Thursday as the first woman to win two gold medals in the halfpipe event, USA Today reports.

The 21-year-old snagged the top spot in this year’s competition, following in her own footsteps — she previously won gold in the event at the 2018 games.

Kim, who has won every competition except for one since 2019, pulled off a series of tricky maneuvers to nab first place.

When she won the halfpipe at the PyeongChang Olympics, a then 17-year-old Kim became the youngest woman to win the gold medal for snowboarding, notes Sports Illustrated.

Kim’s gold medal marks the second gold for team U.S.A. since the 2022 Beijing games began. The first came from fellow snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis, who found herself atop the podium on Wednesday after a winning performance in the snowboardcross event.

The 36-year-old’s victory was also historic, as it made her the oldest American woman to win gold in the Winter Games.
