Netflix raises subscription prices
Netflix has raised its subscription prices in the U.S. and Canada, the company announced Friday.
The standard plan in the U.S. went from $13.99 a month to $15.49 per month, the first increase since October 2020. Prices for the basic and premium subscriptions, meanwhile, rose by $1 and $2, respectively.
The company said the increase in prices is to pay for new programming for the platform.
“We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members,” a Netflix spokesperson said.
“We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget,” the spokesperson added.
The prices will update for existing Netflix members in a few weeks, while the prices automatically apply to new customers.
