Spokesman: Claims that Prince Charles asked about skin tone of Harry and Meghan’s children is ‘fiction’

A spokesperson for Prince Charles on Monday shot back at suggestions that he had questioned how “dark” the future children of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would be.

During a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, Meghan said that there had been “concerns and conversations” over the skin color of her first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, saying there had been concerns “about how dark his skin might be.”

Megan is of biracial descent, with a white father and a Black mother.

When Winfrey asked further about who in the royal family was raising concerns about her children’s skin tone, Meghan declined to elaborate, saying, “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

In the new book “Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan,” author Christopher Andersen suggests that it was Charles who questioned the skin color of Meghan and Harry’s future children.

However, a spokesperson for Charles said the book was “fiction and not worth further comment,” according to Reuters.

The spokesperson relayed the response to reporters in Barbados, where Charles is set to mark the island nation’s changeover to a republic.

Andersen wrote that the skin tone of Charles’ future grandchildren from Meghan and Harry came up in a conversation with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, according to the New York Post.

When Charles questioned what the children would look like, Camilla allegedly responded, “Well, absolutely gorgeous, I’m certain.”

Andersen wrote in his book that Charles responded by lowering his voice and saying, “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”

According to Page Six, Andersen stopped short of outright stating that it was Charles who Meghan was talking about when she spoke with Oprah earlier this year.

During her time as a working member of the British royal family, Meghan was reported to have had a close relationship with Charles, who walked her down the aisle at her wedding when her father was unable to attend.

Royal family reporters Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie wrote in their book published last year about Harry and Meghan, “Finding Freedom,” that Charles was very fond of his daughter-in-law and supportive of her once she joined the family.
