Buckingham Palace: Queen Elizabeth II instructed to rest for two weeks
Buckingham Palace has instructed 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II to rest for the next two weeks after doctors recommended that she cut back on her schedule, reports The Associated Press.
According to the AP, the British queen can still perform light, desk-based duties but will not attend the Festival of Remembrance — an event held annually at Royal Albert Hall to honor those who have sacrificed and served from the United Kingdom — on November 13.
“However, it remains The Queen’s firm intention to be present for the National Service of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday, on 14th November,’’ the palace said, according to the AP’s report, noting the major event is listed yearly on the queen’s calendar.
Last week, the monarch spent the night at the hospital for “preliminary investigations,” as stated by the palace, and it was reported that she was in “good spirits.” It was the queen’s first time staying overnight at a hospital since she suffered gastroenteritis in 2013.
Because of her hospital stay, the queen had to cancel her trip to visit Northern Ireland where she was scheduled for a list of duties.
Elizabeth was photographed using a walking stick at an armed forces charity event, which raised questions about her health. The last time she was seen with a cane was in 2003, following knee surgery.
Elizabeth is the world’s longest-reigning monarch to date. In 2022 she will have her platinum jubilee celebration to commemorate 70 years of rule in England.
