Nonprofit raises more than $260K for victims of Alabama plant shooting

A nonprofit has raised more than $260,000 for victims of the Alabama plant shooting in June.

The National Compassion Fund said there will be a public meeting Tuesday and a committee with 10 people will ultimately decide the policies to give the money away, The Associated Press reported. 

A spokesperson for the group said most of the donations came from a GoFundMe and some checks. 

The National Compassion Fund is a subsidiary of the National Center for Victims of Crime that helps manage and distribute donations after events with high casualties.

The shooting in the middle of June left two people dead and another two injured, with the gunman killing himself afterward. 

Michael Dobbins and David Horton were the two victims who were employees at the Muller Co. plant. Casey Sampson and Isaac Byrd were taken to the hospital after the attack.

Andreas Horton, the shooter, killed himself after the incident, parking his car along a road that overlooked his mother’s grave.
