Frozen pizza recalled due to misbranding, undeclared allergens

Thousands of pounds of frozen pizza are being recalled after their labels were mislabeled and allergens were not identified.

Nestle USA Inc. announced over the weekend that it is recalling DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust Pepperoni Pizzas made on June 30 with a “best by” date of March 2022.

The company said the packaging says the pizzas are pepperoni, but the contents are DiGiorno Three Meat Crispy Pan Crust Pizza. The product contains soy, an allergen which is not labeled on the box.

The issue was discovered after a consumer called the company saying they got a three meat pizza instead of a pepperoni pizza in the pepperoni box.

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said Sunday there were 27,872 pounds of pizza affected by the recall.

The agency said there have been no reports of adverse reactions to the mislabeled pizzas.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the FSIS said.
