Mary Trump blasts uncle’s plans to provide commentary on boxing match on 9/11 anniversary: ‘Disgraceful’
Former President Trump‘s niece Mary Trump blasted her uncle’s plans to participate as a commentator in a pay-per-view heavyweight fight the same day as the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as “disgraceful.”
Mary Trump made her comments condemning Trump during a Thursday night interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
During the interview, which also covered the possibility of Trump attempting a 2024 presidential bid, Cooper asked Trump’s niece her thoughts on her uncle providing commentary at the upcoming boxing match.
“Does it surprise you even by his low standard?” Cooper asked Mary Trump. “If another former president decided to spend 9/11 commenting on a boxing match on pay-per-view, people would … their heads would explode.”
“That’s been the problem all along,” she said in response. “For reasons that are very difficult to understand. There is a completely different standard that Donald‘s held to. In fact, he‘s held to no standard.”
“It’s disgraceful,” Mary Trump added during her CNN interview. “And if there is no blowback on the right for this — disgraceful isn’t a strong enough word to describe what you just mentioned — then that tells us everything we need to know about the current state of the Republican Party, and it tells us that the Democrats really need to start wrapping their heads around the fact that this is not a party that can be worked with, this is not a party that should be conceded to.”
Digital streaming service FITE announced on Tuesday that the former president and Donald Trump Jr. will “offer their perspective” during a Saturday event with a headlining fight between Evander Holyfield and Vitor Belfort.
People who are interested in viewing the fight will be charged $49.99 to stream it online, according to the Washington Times.
