NJ Proud Boys member arrested in connection to Jan. 6 riot

A New Jersey man who is a member of the Proud Boys was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection on Capitol Hill.

The Justice Department said in a statement that Shawn Price, 26, of Rockaway, N.J., is being charged with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and obstruction of justice.

Price made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon in the District of New Jersey.

Federal prosecutors say Price was in a leadership position in a northern New Jersey chapter of the Proud Boys, a group that describes itself as “a pro-Western fraternal organization for men.” He was among the rioters who breached the Capitol on Jan. 6 and told associates on Facebook that he “pushed that line and started it ourselves had to be done.”

Price is just one of several members of the Proud Boys who has been charged in relation to the riot, which unsuccessfully sought to prevent Congress from certifying the Electoral College results from the 2020 presidential race.

Roughly 465 people have thus far been charged over the events of Jan. 6, including more than 130 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
