Iowa college closed for fourth day after cyberattack

The Des Moines Area Community College is closed for a fourth day after a Thursday cyberattack.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as #DMACC continues to make progress to fully restore all computer network services,” the college tweeted.

Dates for assignments and registration for fall courses have been pushed back due to the incident. 

The school says there are still “several tasks to complete” before the network can be fully functioning again and it is not clear when that will occur, Mark Clark, the college’s executive director of information solutions, said Monday, according to the Des Moines Register reported.

The college has not released details about the attack yet for security reasons. 

“The security work the forensics team is doing takes time,” Clark said. “If we don’t get it right, we could further jeopardize the network.” 

Online classes were canceled Thursday followed by a full school closure on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

The cyberattack affected online classes and the school’s telephone system.

The school says there is no evidence the attackers “acquired or misused” student of faculty information, according to the outlet.
