North Carolina church employee allegedly stole more than $150K
An employee at a church in North Carolina was arrested after allegedly embezzling more than $150,000.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said that Betty Fowler Collins, 79, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of embezzlement and eight counts of forgery, according to The Winston-Salem Journal.
Collins allegedly forged bank checks drawn from Liberty Baptist Church and stole the money between January 2009 and August 2020, the newspaper reported.
During this time, she was the church’s secretary-treasurer.
Collins is currently in the Davidson County Jail on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, according to the Journal.
However, Collins is not listed on the jail’s active inmates list, which was updated Friday morning.
