Police: Indiana man allegedly killed four after argument about stimulus check

An Indiana man allegedly killed three adults and a child after arguing with his girlfriend about her stimulus check, according to police documents filed on Tuesday.

The four deceased victims — ages 7, 23, 35 and 44 — were discovered at an Indiana home on Saturday night, Indianapolis Police said in a statement.

One adult woman, who was also shot and hospitalized in critical condition, identified the suspect as her boyfriend, Malik Halfacre, according to an affidavit obtained by ABC News.

She told police that Halfacre had fled the residence after the shooting with the couple’s six-month old daughter.

The baby was later discovered safe at the home of Halfacre’s sister, who allegedly told police that he “admitted to killing four people and told her details about how it happened.”

A friend later allegedly helped Halfacre flee, according to the affidavit. Police said he was found hiding in the attic of an Indianapolis home on Sunday and was apprehended by a SWAT team after an hours-long standoff.

The violent shooting reportedly stemmed from an argument between Halfacre and his girlfriend, identified as Jeanettrius Moore, over her stimulus check. 

Family members told local outlet FOX 59 that Halfacre had demanded at least half of the $1,400 stimulus check that Moore, who worked at a beauty supply shop, had already received as part of the most recent COVID-19 relief package.

A cousin of Moore, who had spoken to her before the shooting, stated that the couple argued the day before.

Halfacre was reportedly insisting that he was “gonna get that money.” 

“She said he gave her an evil look and walked off,” said Wendy Johnson. “He came back.”

When he returned on Saturday, Halfacre allegedly began rifling through Moore’s purse looking for the money.

Moore’s brother allegedly attempted to intervene when Halfacre opened fire, according to the family’s account.

“Malik pulled out the gun and just started killing everybody,” Johnson told the outlet.

The four deceased victims were identified as Moore’s 7-year-old daughter Eve Moore; her brother Daquan Moore, 23; her mother Tomeeka Brown, 44; and her cousin Anthony Johnson, 35.

According to Johnson, Halfacre took both Moore and their infant daughter to the car, strapping the child into her seat before going inside to retrieve the milk bottle.

“When he went in the house, that was Jeanettrius’s cue to run for her life, and that’s what she did,” Johnson recalled of Moore’s story. “Ran for her life in traffic across New York Street and knocking on everyone’s doors.”

Moore reportedly hid on a neighbor’s porch as Halfacre drove away with their child. Police told ABC News on Tuesday that she was in stable condition. 

According to the affidavit obtained by ABC News, Moore took the money and his girlfriend’s purse when he left. 

He was booked in the Marion County Jail and charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery.
