Epstein’s New York townhouse under contract for $50 million: report
Jeffrey Epstein’s townhouse in New York City is under contract to sell for roughly $50 million, two people familiar with the transaction told The Wall Street Journal.
The people said the property had been on the market for several months, and came on the market for $88 million, the Journal reported. The price was lowered to $65 million in July.
Epstein paid $20 million for the one in 1998, people familiar with the situation told the newspaper.
New York-based real estate agency Modlin Group, which has listed the home, didn’t immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.
According to the agency’s website, the mansion was commission to be built in the 1930s by Herbert N. Straus, who was heir to the owners of retailers R.H. Macy & Co.
The was built on a 50 foot-wide by 102.2 foot deep lot. It is is seven stories and spans 28,000 square feet.
Epstein’s portfolio also included homes in Paris, New Mexico and Florida, however the New York home was the most valuable. His Palm Beach home is in contract to sell to developer Todd Michael Glaser, according to the Journal, though its unclear how much it will sell for.
Epstein died by suicide in 2019 in a federal prison while awaiting trial for federal sex trafficking charges.
The Journal reported that the proceeds are expected to go to his estate, which created a compensation funds to adjudicate claims from Epstein’s victims.
