Former President Clinton and former secretary of State Hillary Clinton acknowledged the life of civil rights activist and former adviser Vernon Jordan following his death.

Bill Clinton shared a photo with Jordan on Twitter, the caption stating, “Vernon Jordan was a wonderful friend to Hillary, Chelsea, and me, in good times and bad.”

“We worked and played, laughed and cried, won and lost together,” he wrote. “We loved him very much and always will.”

In a separate tweet, Hillary Clinton hailed Jordan as a “brave and determined leader in the civil rights and economic justice movements.”

“He will be remembered for the many barriers he helped knock down and the support he gave to so many in the long, unfinished struggle,” she tweeted. “Rest in peace and power, my friend.”

Jordan, a noted civil rights activist, passed away on Monday night at the age of 85. Jordan advised multiple former presidents from Lyndon Johnson to Barack Obama, but became closely associated with the Clintons.

Jordan advised Bill Clinton during his 1992 presidential campaign and served on his transition team. Jordan went on to endorse Hillary Clinton’s 2008 and 2016 presidential campaign.

Both President Biden and Obama also remembered Jordan Tuesday, following the news of his death.

Biden released a statement honoring Jordan, saying that he “knew the soul of America.”

“Vernon Jordan knew the soul of America, in all of its goodness and all of its unfulfilled promise. And he knew the work was far from over,” Biden said.

“He liked to say that we had torn down what Dr. King called ‘sagging walls of segregation,’ but we still had to deal with ‘the rubble’—with systemic racism, with inequity, with the injustice still faced by so many Black Americans,” Biden continued. “To honor him, and others of this Civil Rights generation, we must continue to do the same.”

Obama also took to Twitter Tuesday to commemorate Jordan’s life.

“Like so many others, Michelle and I benefited from Vernon Jordan’s wise counsel and warm friendship—and deeply admired his tireless fight for civil rights,” Obama tweeted.

“We hope the memory of his extraordinary presence and the legacy of his work bring comfort to Ann, Vickee, and his family.”
