Seattle woman finds a kilo of cocaine in crochet kit

Police said a woman in Seattle “needing a hobby” discovered a package of cocaine in a crochet kit she purchased from a thrift store over the weekend. 

The woman purchased the kit from a shop in the city’s Greenwood neighborhood on Sunday afternoon to crochet animal hats, the Seattle Police Department confirmed in a Monday statement. Police have not identified the woman. 

After opening the kit, the woman found a “suspicious heavy item encased in yellow rubber,” according to the police statement. The item had “an odd odor with 100% written on the outside.”

The woman immediately contacted police and gave them the mysterious object. Officers later confirmed that the item was a kilogram of cocaine. 

Police did not reveal in the statement how the cocaine ended up in the kit. 

The incident is not the only time police have found illegal drugs in thrift store purchases in recent days.

Police in Phoenix on Saturday said a family who purchased a plush glow toy at a local thrift store found bags containing thousands of pills believed to be fentanyl in the toy.

Parents purchased a glow worm at a thrift store in El Mirage for their daughter and found a sandwich bag with over 5,000 pills believed to be fentanyl inside.
