Amanda Gorman’s three books get million print orders due to high demand
Amanda Gorman, the youngest known inaugural poet in U.S. history, is set to publish 1 million copies each of her three books under a new deal.
Viking Books for Young Readers, an imprint of the Penguin Random House publishing company, will publish 1 million hardcover copies of Gorman’s book “The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country,” which is set to be released March 16, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The book was previously set to be published on April 27 with a smaller number of copies.
Gorman read a copy of her poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Biden’s inauguration last week, and her work immediately skyrocketed across the country.
Penguin Random House will also publish 1 million copies of a poetry collection titled “The Hill We Climb and Other Poems,” which is set to be released on Sept. 21. The publishing house will also print 1 million more copies of Gorman’s first picture book “Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem” later this year, according to the Journal.
The picture book on Thursday ranked number one on Amazon’s list of best sellers. “The Hill we Climb and Other Poems” ranked number two, while “The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country” ranked number four.
Gorman earlier this week inked an agreement with IMG models, which will work to secure editorial opportunities for the poet and brand endorsements, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The poet is also set to participate in ceremonies held ahead of Super Bowl LV next month. She will recite an original poem recognizing community leaders during the coronavirus pandemic.
Gorman in 2017 became the U.S.’s first national youth poet laureate. She published her first book in 2015, titled “The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough.”
