An assistant college football coach for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was fired Thursday after sending an offensive tweet directed at Stacey Abrams the night of the Georgia Senate runoffs, which were both won by the Democratic candidates.
“Congratulations to the state GA and Fat Albert @staceyabrams because you have truly shown America the true works of cheating in an election, again!!! Enjoy the buffet Big Girl! You earned it!!! Hope the money was good, still not governor!” Chris Malone tweeted, as reported by USA Today.
The school quickly moved to remove Malone from his position and condemn his tweets toward the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate.
“Our football program has a set of clear standards. Those standards include respecting others,” Rusty Wright, Chattanooga’s head football, wrote in a statement put on his personal Twitter and the official account for Chattanooga athletics.
“What was posted yesterday on social media by a member of my staff is unacceptable and not part of what I stand for or what Chattanooga Football stands for,” he said.
Malone has since deleted the tweet along with his entire Twitter account. The school has also taken his bio page off of their website.
Abrams has gotten much of the credit for voter registration and turnout efforts ahead of Tuesday’s Senate runoff elections in Georgia. The victories of Sens.-elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will give Democrats control over the upper chamber, in addition to the House and White House.
