Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) ordered a 6 p.m. curfew after hundreds of President Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
“Today, I’m ordering a citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7,” wrote Bowser.
“During the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public spaces within the District,” she said.
Shortly after 2 p.m., protesters stormed into the Capitol building. Lawmakers in the building were told to shelter inside their offices. Vice President Pence was removed from the Senate chamber as the protesters gathered outside the Capitol.
Bowser on Monday activated the National Guard in anticipation of the protests.
