Alexander Vindman, the former impeachment witness who was ousted from his government role after his testimony in front of members of the House, congratulated President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their 2020 election victory Saturday.
“Congratulations to President Elect @JoeBiden and Vice President Elect @KamalaHarris. I am grateful for your willingness to continue to serve the American people. Now we can start to heal and rebuild,” he tweeted.
“When is the right moment to unfollow @realDonaldTrump? As a policy guy, I had to follow to see what catastrophe would come out of his Twitter. But know?” he added, jabbing at the president.
Vindman rose to national prominence earlier this year after appearing as a witness in the House’s impeachment hearing, testifying mainly about Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during which Trump raised investigations of Biden and his son.
Vindman, who as the top expert on Ukraine at the National Security Council listened in on the July 25, 2019 phone call between Trump and Zelensky, testified publicly and privately that he believed the call was inappropriate and that he reported it to White House lawyers.
He was later dismissed from his role and escorted out of the White House, a move that Democrats criticized as an act of retaliation by Trump for Vindman’s testimony.
Vindman’s family also celebrated the Biden-Harris victory, with his twin brother saying he was “celebrating democracy.”
“Exhausted. Elated. Relieved,” added Vindman’s wife, Rachel Vindman.
