Armed Trump supporter arrested at North Carolina polling place

The Charlotte Observer

An armed man wearing clothing showing support for President Trump was arrested Tuesday on trespassing charges at a North Carolina polling place.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Justin Dunn voted at a polling location in Mecklenburg County then “continued to loiter” at the voting site while “legally carrying an unconcealed firearm.”

Police said they were called at 10:34 a.m. EST “regarding Dunn possibly intimidating other voters.” They were called again nearly two hours later after Dunn returned to the voting site.

“Upon officers’ arrival, they observed Dunn on the property. Dunn was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with 2nd Degree Trespassing,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department tweeted.

“Dunn was asked to leave the property by an official presiding over the precinct location in front of officers and voluntarily left without further issues. Dunn was also banned from returning to that location by the precinct official,” police added.

The man was seen wearing a hat supporting Trump.

North Carolina law grants polling officials the authority “to enforce peace and good order” during voting, including stopping “improper practices and attempts to obstruct, intimidate, or interfere with any person in registering or voting,” the Charlotte Observer noted.

Dunn told the newspaper he was accosted by people in T-shirts supporting the Black Lives Matter movement earlier in the day.

Rep. Alma Adams (D-N.C.), who was attending an event near the polling site, was driven away from the location after witnesses noticed Dunn, according to multiple reports. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles also left the event (D).
