Oakland A’s postpone game after positive coronavirus test

The baseball game between the Oakland Athletics and the Houston Astros was postponed Sunday after a member of the Oakland A’s organization tested positive for COVID-19. 

The scheduled game at Houston’s Minute Maid Park was postponed “out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing and contact tracing to be conducted,” the Oakland Athletics organization said in a statement. 

The organization said the team conducted testing and contact tracing for the entire traveling party on Sunday morning and will self-isolate in Houston with “recommended safety precautions in place.”

The released statement did not provide details on whether the positive test came from a player, coach or someone else involved in the organization. 

Oakland general manager David Forest, who was not traveling with the team, said the team will stay put until at least Monday, according to The Associated Press. 

“This is our priority right now, making sure our people are healthy and safe,” Forest said, according to the newswire. 

The manager reportedly said the team was informed shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday by the MLB that there had been a positive result from Friday’s regular round of testing.

MLB’s attempt at a shortened season was hit by coronavirus almost immediately and a number of teams have announced positive COVID-19 tests for players and others in their organizations over the past month. Thirty-eight games have been postponed over coronavirus concerns, according to the AP.
