A 2-month-old child has tested positive for coronavirus in Nashville, one of the youngest cases in the country amid the pandemic that has sickened more than 75,000 people in the U.S.
Nashville Metro Health officials confirmed a total of 293 confirmed cases of coronavirus in a Thursday statement, an increase of 36 cases over a 24-hour period. The 2-month-old child, who was not identified by name or sex, is the youngest confirmed case. The oldest recorded case in the area is 94.
Officials confirmed that one person has died from “complications due to the coronavirus,” and 12 are hospitalized.
Nashville’s coronavirus task force chairman confirmed that the infant is at home with mild symptoms and is “doing well,” the Nashville Tennessean reported.
The age group with the most confirmed cases in Nashville is young adults ages 21-30, followed by those between the ages of 31-40.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said children are not at a higher risk of becoming infected with coronavirus than adults.
Florida health officials confirmed Tuesday that a baby boy who is under 1 year old has tested positive for coronavirus, in addition to a 2-year-old girl. A 3-week-old infant in New York was also confirmed to have contracted the virus, Fox News reported.
