Missouri man accused of livestreaming threats dressed as the Joker charged with terrorism

A Missouri man who police said livestreamed himself threatening to bomb and kill people while dressed as the Joker was charged with terrorism Tuesday. 

Jeremy Garnier, 48, from University City, Mo., faces a felony count of making a terrorist threat, The Associated Press reported. He is being held without bail, with court documents saying he was a “danger to the community.”

A livestream posted to Garnier’s Facebook account lasted almost an hour and showed a man dressed as the Batman villain, with makeup on, putting on a costume in a bedroom, according to the AP. The video reportedly then shows the man driving his car, smoking a pipe and going to the St. Louis Galleria shopping mall when security tells him to leave. 

Police said the man then talks about the opioid epidemic before he goes to a restaurant, orders a soda and says, “I can’t be inebriated when I’m planning on, you know, killing a bunch of people.”

Police arrested him within minutes at the restaurant as the livestream continued. 

It is unclear from court documents if he was in possession of explosives or armed in another way. There was no listed attorney to speak on Garnier’s behalf, according to the AP.

The shooter at the movie theater in Aurora, Colo., in 2012 wore a Joker costume when he attacked during the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises.” James Holmes received several multiple life sentences.
