New Stacey Abrams book to focus on voting rights
Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams will release a new book in 2020 focused on voting rights, publishing company Henry and Holt announced Tuesday.
Abrams’s book, titled “Our Time is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America,” centers on the fight to end voter suppression — an issue she blames for her narrow 2018 gubernatorial loss to now-Gov. Brian Kemp (R).
The book, Abrams’s second nonfiction work, is scheduled to be published in June.
Abrams has set her focus on fighting voter suppression since her 2018 loss, launching her voter rights organization, Fair Fight.
“Our Time is Now” will serve as a “blueprint” for the changes Abrams is calling for, according to Henry and Holt. Abrams will draw on research from Fair Fight as well as personal anecdotes throughout the book.
“The future of our democracy depends on correcting all that is wrong with our elections process, including the insidious practice of voter suppression,” Abrams said in the announcement. “And we must remind voters of their power to be seen and to demand action not simply on election days but every day.”
