Police department apologizes after officer lies about McDonald’s employee writing ‘f—ing pig’ on cup

A Kansas police department apologized after one of its officers reportedly resigned and admitted to fabricating a story about a McDonald’s employee handing him a cup with an obscene insult written on it. 

Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday said in a Wednesday news release he’s “truly sorry for all unnecessary, negative attention and pain that this incident has brought to every person who was affected.”

“We hope that this is always remembered as the act of one person and not that of the chosen few men and women who have the courage to boldly protect and serve the citizens of this great Nation,” Hornaday continued. 

Hornaday reportedly announced Monday the officer fabricated the story about being handed his order with the words “f—ing pig” written in marker across the label. Hornaday said the officer said it was “meant to be a joke” and resigned, The Associated Press reported.

Hornaday had accused one of the workers at a McDonald’s franchise in Junction City of handing the cup with the expletive on it to an officer in a since-deleted Facebook post. 

The owner of the McDonald’s, Dana Cook, had told local NBC affiliate KSNT that the franchise had video surveillance footage of the incident that disproved the allegations.
