Amazon removes Christmas ornaments, other merchandise with Auschwitz images

Amazon has removed Christmas ornaments bearing images of the Auschwitz concentration camp after the Auschwitz-Birkenau state museum brought the products to the online retail giant’s attention, according to CNN Business.

“Selling ‘Christmas ornaments’ with images of Auschwitz does not seem appropriate. Auschwitz on a bottle opener is rather disturbing and disrespectful,” the museum tweeted Sunday. “We ask @amazon to remove the items of those suppliers.”

The online retailer removed the products, which were sold by third-party vendors, after the tweets.

“All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account. The products in question have been removed,” Amazon told CNN Business in a statement.

The company has previously taken similar steps following customer complaints, including pulling bathmats featuring Islamic calligraphy and removing documentaries that promote anti-vaccine conspiracy theories from its Amazon Prime streaming service.

As of Monday, the memorial was still calling on Wish, another online retailer, to pull the same products.

The Hill has reached out to Wish for comment.
