Hillary Clinton weighs in on Trump tweets: Witness intimidation is a crime, ‘Full stop’

Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton weighed in on President Trump’s tweet on Friday that criticized a witness in the impeachment inquiry, stating “witness intimidation is a crime.”

“Witness intimidation is a crime, no matter who does it. Full stop,” the former secretary of State tweeted.

Clinton’s tweet follows a post by Trump about testifying witness and former ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.

“Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad,” Trump tweeted Friday. “She started off in Somalia, how did that go? Then fast forward to Ukraine, where the new Ukrainian President spoke unfavorably about her in my second phone call with him. It is a U.S. President’s absolute right to appoint ambassadors.”

Yovanovitch called the tweet “intimidating” after House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) read it to her during the hearing.

“It’s very intimidating,” Yovanovitch said. “I can’t speak to what the president is trying to do, but I think the effect is to be intimidating.”

Yovanovitch was removed from her post in Ukraine earlier this year. She testified as part of the House’s impeachment inquiry into Trump on Friday.
