Mexico announced Monday that it has made arrests following the murder of nine U.S. citizens last week.

Security Minister Alfonso Durazo told reporters that an unspecified number of arrests have been made in the wake of the killing of three women and six children with dual U.S.-Mexican nationality, Reuters reported.

{mosads}“There have been arrests, but it’s not up to us to give information,” Durazo told reporters in Mexico City.

Durazo said federal and state of Sonora prosecutors were leading the investigation, but a spokeswoman for the state government in Sonora told Reuters, “We don’t have that information.”

The killings sparked outrage in the U.S. as officials suspected drug cartel gunmen attacked the family while they traveled within Sonora.

The Mexican government has suspected the family got in the middle of a territorial dispute between two drug cartels and, on Sunday, asked the FBI to help with the investigation, according to Reuters.

President Trump has offered to send U.S. military forces south of the border to help bring the killers to justice, an offer that Mexico City promptly declined.
