Man shot in Waffle House after using racial slurs: authorities

A man was shot and killed in a Waffle House in Jackson, Ga., after using racial slurs against other customers, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI). 

Three 911 calls to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office on Halloween night preceded the incident, with the first regarding an angry customer, the second regarding a fight and the third regarding shots being fired, according to the statement GBI released Friday. The calls were made within minutes of each other at about 10:57 p.m.

{mosads}The police’s preliminary investigation found Nicholas Phinazee Bryan, 27, got in an argument with Robert Lewis Henderson Jr., 36, and Antonio DeMarty Evans, 39. Bryan reportedly used racial slurs against both men, prompting the Waffle House staff to request he leave.

The statement says Evans and Bryan began a “physical altercation,” which ended with Henderson shooting one round at Bryan.

Police found Bryan with a gunshot wound at the scene, and he was taken to Monroe County Hospital where he died at 3 a.m. The GBI Crime Lab will perform an autopsy of the body.
