Four killed in shooting at California Halloween party

Four people were killed in a shooting during a party on Halloween in Orinda, Calif., according to authorities. 

“Orinda homicide update – four fatalities, several injuries,” tweeted the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.  

The sheriff’s office later said in a Facebook post that three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and another died later in the hospital. 

The sheriff’s office also said the total number of victims in the incident at the large house party was unknown. 

Some of the victims were taken to hospitals via ambulance while other transported themselves, deputies said. 

They added that more than 100 total people attended the party.

Orinda Police Chief David Cook told  NBC News Bay Area that at least four additional people were injured in the shooting, which occurred around 11 p.m.{mosads}

Witnesses told the TV station that the Halloween party took place in an Airbnb rental and said that attendees included students from a local college. These details were not confirmed by authorities. 

Orinda is about 17 miles from San Francisco.
