Several women were allegedly removed from a New York City bar after confronting disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein at an artist event.
Comedian Kelly Bachman, who was performing, according to a report in Variety, blasted Weinstein during her performance in a now-viral video.
“I’m feeling a little tense, anybody else? I’m a comic, and it’s our job to name the elephant in the room. Do we know what that is? Yeah, it’s a Freddy Kruger in the room, if you will. I didn’t know that we had to bring our own mace and rape whistles to Actor’s Hour,” Bachman said.{mosads}
Bachman was initially booed and told “shut up” from the audience, but she was later cheered.
Zoe Stuckless, who said she attended the event, posted a video of herself yelling at Weinstein on Facebook.
“Nobody’s going to say anything?” Stuckless says in the video. “Nobody’s really going to say anything? I’ll get out of here. That’s fine. I’m happy to leave, but nobody’s going to say anything? I’m going to stand four feet from a f—ing rapist, and nobody’s going to say anything?”
Stuckless can be seen in the video being guided away from Weinstein. She said in the Facebook post that she was kicked out of the bar by Weinstein’s bodyguards and “the event organizers were happy to see me go.”
“In some ways tonight was a horrible, painful reminder of the power a man like Weinstein holds even now. It was a reminder that even in this time of relative awareness it is hypnotically easy to be pulled into a culture of silence,” Stuckless wrote.
“However, it was also a reminder that our voices have so much more power when we stand together,” she continued.
Another woman, Amber Rollo, who tweeted she was a friend of Bachman’s, alleged she was also escorted out after later confronting Weinstein. She tweeted that she called Weinstein a “f—-ing monster.”
Downtime Bar posted a statement on Facebook addressing the incident.
“A company called Actors Hour rented our bar for a private event, with a guest list all their own. Shortly into the evening, one guest began heckling another, causing a disturbance to everyone in attendance. After several requests to stop were ignored, we kindly asked the heckler to leave,” the bar posted. “Please know that our goal at Downtime is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome. We respect the privacy of our patrons and event partners, and want to ensure that all guests are treated equally, with the same service and respect.”
A representative for Weinstein also responded to the event in a statement to Variety. The statement denied that Weinstein’s employees had “asked the woman to leave.”
“Harvey Weinstein was out with friends enjoying the music and trying to find some solace in his life that has been turned upside down. This scene was uncalled for, downright rude and an example of how due process today is being squashed by the public, trying to take it away in the courtroom too,” the statement said.
Actress Rose McGowan filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Weinstein, alleging that his and his legal and security team’s efforts to suppress sexual assault and harassment allegations against him violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
Weinstein is currently facing criminal charges involving alleged sexual assaults on two women, and he has been accused of sexual assault and harassment by more than 80 women overall. He has denied the allegations.
